Yantyan

Privacy policy

Last updated 1st November 2026

This page covers the Yantyan app for Android and this website. It says what Yantyan keeps, where it is kept, and what leaves your phone.

The short version

There is no Yantyan account and no Yantyan server. Your projects, counts, notes and patterns stay on your phone.

Three things can leave it: what you choose to send to Ravelry, Android's own backup, and any email you send to Yantyan. Each is explained below.

What stays on your phone

Yantyan keeps these on your phone and nowhere else:

The app has no ads, no analytics and no third-party code. It asks for one permission, which is internet access. Yantyan uses it to work with Ravelry and to capture web pages.

Ravelry

Using Ravelry is optional. Everything in Yantyan works without it.

Signing in

You sign in on Ravelry's own page, in your phone's browser. Yantyan never sees your Ravelry password.

Ravelry then lets the app act on your account. That permission is kept on your phone only, and it is left out of Android's backup.

What Yantyan keeps from Ravelry

Yantyan does not sell this information or pass it to anyone. It has nowhere to send it, because there is no Yantyan server.

What goes to Ravelry

Nothing goes to Ravelry on its own. Yantyan sends something only when you press a button to send it:

Project notes on Ravelry are public. Anyone looking at your project can read them. That was true before Yantyan and is still true now.

Ravelry's own privacy policy covers everything held on Ravelry.

Android's backup

If backup is switched on for your phone, your row counts, projects, notes and settings are included in Android's own backup. It copies them to your personal Google Drive, so they are there when you change phone.

This is Android's backup, not Yantyan's. Yantyan cannot see it. On Android 9 and later it is encrypted with your phone's own lock code.

Your pattern files are left out on purpose, so nothing you have attached to a project is copied anywhere. Your Ravelry sign-in is left out too, so you sign in to Ravelry again on a new phone.

A direct phone-to-phone transfer carries everything, patterns included. It does not go near Google Drive.

See and take your data

In the app, Settings has a row called "Check your data". It gives a plain account of what goes to Ravelry, what goes to Yantyan (nothing), and what the app holds.

There you can see which pattern copies take up the most room, and take them out. You can also save every project, count and repeat to a file. The file is yours, and it needs no app to read it.

If you write to Yantyan

You can write to contact@yantyan.com. One person reads it. Your message and email address are used to reply to you and to fix what you report, and for nothing else.

Emails are deleted 12 months after the problem is fixed or the conversation ends. Nobody else can see them.

You can ask to see or delete what you have sent. Write to the same address.
